Less can be more, and the CRKT Navajo, designed by Knifemakers’ Guild member Jim Hammond, proves it It’s a graceful and simple design, but every curve and every feature is designed to do a job, or have a benefit The Navajo is built as well as we know how to make a knife, with premium materials and construction strong as a horse.
At the business end, the modified spear point blade has a flowing differential high hollow grind for improved cutting. Its point is on the center line for accurate tracking. Laser cut from Z6OCDV14 stainless steel, the blade features a thumb ramp with unusually deep friction grooves for superior control. Double thumb studs allow ambidextrous, one-hand opening. The blade pivots on Teflon® bearings for silky smooth action.
The locking liner is ingeniously recessed into the handle and attached with three Torx® fasteners for simplicity, weight saving, and reduction of overall handle thickness.
The handle itself consists of two laser cut stainless steel plates to provide a rugged heft in the hand, yielding maximum frame rigidity with minimum thick ness. The open frame design is modem and easy to clean—there are no scales to wear or holes and grooves to catch dirt. Another benefit of the frame design is that the blade length can be maximized because there is no back spacer. The handle shape, curved with a castellated index finger choil, results in an ergonomic blend which is both comfortable and secure. Unlike other stainless steel knives, which are usually polished and slippery, the Navajo is fine bead blast finished throughout for superior grip and feel. The handle is precision assembled with threaded stainless steel spacers and flush-fitting Torx® fasteners on both sides of the handle.
The forward index finger choil, combined with the friction grooved thumb ramp, create a zone of opposition for maximum control.
When folded, the handle’s rounded ends contribute to carrying comfort in the pocket A removable, Teflon-plated stainless steel custom designed clothing/gear clip keeps the Navajo where you put it, in pocket, on belt or webbing.
We think it’s one hell of a work knife, designed not for years of hard use, but treated right, for a lifetime.
